The last five American F1 drivers before Sargeant

Meet the last five American F1 drivers before Logan Sargeant, whose wider careers include three Indy 500 wins.

Logan Sargeant is set to become the latest driver to carry the Stars and Stripes in Formula 1 as Williams launch the FW45 machine he will pilot in 2023. After graduating from Formula 2, Florida native Sargeant becomes the 58th American to race in a Grand Prix – and yes, that figure does include those in the oddities that were the 1950-1960 Indianapolis 500s which originally put the 'World' in 'World Championship'. Sargeant is set to partner Alexander Albon as he becomes the first full-time American driver since 2007, almost a generation ago. RacingNews365.com has taken a look back at the previous five drivers from the States to compete in F1 – a timeline of exactly 40 years, so scarce has the participation been.
