The individual title Hamilton took away from Verstappen in 2021

Max Verstappen might have clinched the World Championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but Lewis Hamilton still walked away with another prize.

Lewis Hamilton might have lost out on the World Championship to Max Verstappen, but the Mercedes driver still left the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with one title under his belt. The 2021 DHL Fastest Lap Award was awarded to Hamilton at the Yas Marina Circuit, with the Briton having achieved the most fastest laps throughout the season. Hamilton set the fastest lap at six out of the 22 races held this year. Verstappen also achieved six fastest laps, but Hamilton beats the Dutchman to this particular title through having claimed the second fastest lap on more occasions.

Success for Mercedes

This is the sixth time that Hamilton has been the winner of the DHL Fastest Lap Award since it was first awarded in 2007. The prize has been consecutively won by a Mercedes driver since 2014, with Hamilton and his former teammates Nico Rosberg and Valtteri Bottas having all earned the accolade. Hamilton was presented with the award in Abu Dhabi by Amna Al Qubaisi, the first female driver from the United Arab Emirates. "As an aspiring driver, it is of course an honour and thrill for me to present this highly coveted DHL Award to one of the world's top racers," Al Qubaisi said. "It is also a tremendous honour to be here representing not only female drivers, but also the millions of female race fans and countless women working behind the scenes to make Formula championship racing happen. "I want to thank DHL for acknowledging and celebrating this." This isn't the only prize awarded to Hamilton this week. The seven-time World Champion received his knighthood in a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.
