Szafnauer: Vettel announcement will be made 'very soon'

Aston Martin's Otmar Szafnauer says that an announcement about Sebastian Vettel's future with the team is imminent.

With Sebastian Vettel's immediate future with Aston Martin yet to be confirmed, team boss Otmar Szafnauer believes an announcement about his contract can be made soon. Vettel is believed to be staying on with the team he switched to for this year, after being ousted from Ferrari, but that is yet to be confirmed by either party. Despite the apparent delays with negotiations, Szafnauer said there's no reason for Aston Martin and Vettel to separate just yet, and that the team want him to stay for 2022. "Yeah, very much so. We want Sebastian to stay. He likes the team," Szafnauer told select members of the media, including RacingNews365.com . "We're in a time window now where we have to discuss it and get the details right for next year. That time window isn't massive so soon we'll know." Asked when the announcement might be made, Szafnauer said: "Soon, within a very short timeframe. We will make an announcement and, like I said, we like Seb, Seb likes us." Vettel was asked about his future with the team on Thursday at Monza, with the four-time World Champion explaining that he's enjoying working with Aston Martin since his switch from Ferrari at the end of 2020. "We are talking to each other," Vettel stated, when asked by RacingNews365.com about the hold-up. "I really enjoy working with the team. I think the atmosphere is great and I do believe the future of this team is very, very bright. "I'm not worried, and I feel that we will have an answer soon." When asked why there has been no announcement to date, Vettel was reluctant to reveal why there might be a delay. "Not much to add, really," Vettel continued. "Generally, I've never really talked much about contracts. "I think it does also say in the contract [that] you're not supposed to talk about it, so I'm afraid I can't give you much more insight."
