Szafnauer explains why Vettel hasn't had Aston Martin runout

While Carlos Sainz has already taken to the track in a Ferrari, albeit a 2018 model, Sebastian Vettel hasn't taken part in any live action with his new team Aston Martin. Team principal Otmar Szafnauer explained why

Aston Martin team principal has explained why Sebastian Vettel hasn't taken to the track with his new team as of yet, stating that their status as a customer team has kept them away from live action. The German is preparing for his first season with the newly rebranded outfit, switching over from Ferrari after spending six years at Maranello. However while his replacement Carlos Sainz has already been on the track with his new Ferrari team at Fiorano at the end of the January in the 2018 SF71H car, Vettel has yet to take the track. Szafnauer revealed why, stating the team aren't able to set up a test day prior to Bahrain due to their status as a customer team. "Since we are a client team we don't have any power units or gearboxes available to equip an old car and take the track because we lease them and have to return them to the manufacturer at the end of the season," Szafnauer told Auto Moto und Sport. As a result Aston Martin and Vettel fans will have to wait until pre-season testing in Bahrain to get a glimpse of the German with his new team on the track.
