The FIA is assessing Yuki Tsunoda after he was alleged to have made ableist comments during qualifying in Austria.
A team radio snippet appeared to capture Tsunoda saying “these guys are fucking retarded” after taking issue with rival drivers as they exited the pit lane during Q1.
Tsunoda was overtaken by Zhou Guanyu in the fast lane during the session before allegedly making the comment.
The potential breach in question relates to Article 12.2.1.k of the FIA’s International Sporting Code.
The segment of the regulations falls under 'any misconduct' regarding the 'Breach of Rules' section of the sporting code.
Drivers being called for alleged derogatory comments is not new to the stewards, with Verstappen investigated after calling Lance Stroll a "retard" and a "mongol" during the Portuguese Grand Prix weekend in 2020.
Verstappen escaped punishment on that occasion.
Tsunoda ended qualifying in 14th place while team-mate Daniel Ricciardo finished three positions ahead in 11th.
