Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner says his driver Nico Hulkenberg is the fastest qualifier he has ever worked with in F1. The German is competing in a full season of F1 this year for the first time since 2019, and has largely impressed, scoring nine of Haas' 11 points so far in 2023. However, it is on Saturdays where Hulkenberg has really shone, reaching Q3 on three occasions, including setting the second-fastest time in Qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix (pictured above). Hulkenberg is thought to be close to agreeing a deal to remain with Haas for 2024, and Steiner talked up his charge’s ability over a single lap. "I would say so," Steiner told media, including RacingNews365.com , when asked whether Hulkenberg was the fastest qualifier he had ever worked with in F1. "We have seen this year, he got into Q3 three times, so for sure he's a very good qualifier. "He can put a lap together that sometimes comes from nowhere." Haas are expected to announce contract extensions for both Hulkenberg and teammate Kevin Magnussen in the coming days, and Steiner said both deals were close to completion. "Just a few days details, nothing big," said Steiner when asked what was holding up any announcement. "I always speak with them, and we're in a good place."
