F1 Japanese Grand Prix 2025

Staggering FIFTH fire causes qualifying red flag

Track fires have caused havoc throughout the Japanese Grand Prix, with qualifying the latest session to be impacted.

A fifth fire of the Japanese Grand Prix weekend has triggered a red flag in the second part of qualifying at the Suzuka Circuit.

With just over eight minutes remaining, the grass on the inside of 130R caught fire, resulting in an immediate stoppage of the session.

Lando Norris topped Q2 as the red flag was flown, ahead of George Russell and Max Verstappen. The session was stopped for six minutes.

It marked the fifth track fire in two days, with two apiece in the second and third practice sessions.

The FIA took measures to reduce the chances of a track fire overnight and again before qualifying. However, all methods have failed.
