Should owning two F1 teams be allowed?

A contentious reality of the F1 paddock reared its head over the Singapore Grand Prix when Daniel Ricciardo snatched the fastest lap point away from Lando Norris on the final lap at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

The Australian, likely driving his final lap for RB - and in F1 - did not receive the bonus point as he was racing outside the top 10.

Therefore, it was a move that raised eyebrows, with McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown saying he would "ask questions" over the incident.

The issue is this: RB is owned by Red Bull, a team in battles with Norris and McLaren for the drivers' and constructors' titles.

Whilst Red Bull and RB insist the decision was made independently, and it is completely legal within the F1 regulations to own two teams, the point Ricciardo took away from the Milton Keynes squad's title rivals could prove significant by the end of the season.

Nevertheless, RB's call to bring its driver in for fresh tyres on the penultimate lap undoubtedly advantaged Red Bull. It begs the question: Should owning two F1 teams be allowed?

Other team principals defended the move, including Toto Wolff, and some have argued that power unit suppliers often enjoy similar advantages to Red Bull with its RB arrangement, not to mention Norris himself, who was unfazed by the occurrence.
