Shock Williams failure triggers Canadian GP qualifying red flag

A shock and sudden failure for Alex Albon's Williams, when was the last time something like this happened?

Qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix was red-flagged with just over five minutes remaining in Q1, following a shock failure for Williams' Alex Albon.

Whilst pushing along the main straight on the approach to the final chicane, the engine cover on his FW47 flew off, breaking into several pieces.

It was scattered across the circuit which triggered the red flag, due to the significant debris having needed to be removed.

Following the failure, Albon had a huge moment as he entered the penultimate corner, sending him across the chicane.

However, he failed to follow the race director's instructions in regard to rejoining correctly, placing him under investigation.

When the session resumed, Albon did manage to rejoin the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after a new engine cover was fitted.
