Shock exit for Hamilton in Austria Sprint Shootout

The Mercedes driver will start the F1 Sprint at Austria from the back of the grid.

Lewis Hamilton has been knocked out in the early stages of the Austria Grand Prix Sprint Shootout after falling victim to track limits. FIA Race Control has been monitoring track limits throughout the weekend , with 47 lap time deletions during qualifying for the Grand Prix on Friday. The Mercedes driver had a lap time deleted due to track limits at Turn 10, then encountered traffic on his final attempt at Turn 4 which prevented him from improving. As a result he will need to recover from the back of the grid as he will start the F1 Sprint from P18. It is the first time he has been knocked out in the first part of a qualifying session since the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
