McLaren's German team principal Andreas Seidl explains what Lando Norris' standout attribute is and proceeds to explain why a contract extension with the British F1 team was a mere formality.
After enduring a few years in the doldrums, McLaren have been on the up for a few years now. The team finished third in last year's constructor's championship a just reward for the effort that has gone into turning the team around. Two men who have played a crucial role in this rennaissance are Seidl and Norris, with the latter committing to the team for two more seasons. His team boss Seidl believes it was the Englishman's speed that made the renewal an easy decision.
"His (Norris) speed, that's the most important thing, because that's something we can't fix if it's not there," Seidl told selected members of the media as well as RacingNews365.com.
"I think if you look back at what he has shown to us the last two and a half years, it's impressive. To see how he started into his Formula 1 career starting in the top 10 in his first ever qualifying in Melbourne 2019 and then simply taking the steps from year to year.
"Also having this great start into this season, I think that was enough for us to be fully convinced that he's the right guy for us, therefore it was quite an easy and straightforward decision to put the next multi year agreement in place."
The German also stated how happy he was to have both Norris and Daniel Ricciardo as his two drivers saying he was hopeful the pair could return McLaren to their glory days.
"We know that we have with Daniel (Ricciardo) and Lando one of the best driver lineups in Formula 1," Siedl explained.
"I'm obviously very, very happy for the entire team, I think that they will be obviously key on our journey to hopefully getting back towards the front in Formula 1 again."
