Schumacher refuses to give up on F1 'dream'

Mick Schumacher has declared he is still holding on to his “dream” of returning to the F1 grid.

Schumacher was signed by Haas to compete in the 2021 season and joined the field as the reigning Formula 2 champion.

However, the German was dealt an uncompetitive car during his rookie campaign and struggled to match the speed of veteran Kevin Magnussen during his second season in 2022.

The 25-year-old was subsequently dropped at the end of the year by the team and linked up with Mercedes as a reserve driver, but has since departed the Brackley-based squad.

Schumacher has been linked to several seats since and although nothing has come to fruition, he has not given up hope.

“My dream is my dream,” Schumacher told RTL.

“It lives on in the moments when I have free time and can think about it.”

Schumacher competed in last year's World Endurance Championship campaign with Alpine, scoring one podium result.

He will return to the WEC field once again this year in the hypercar and asserted it is getting his complete attention when it is required.

“When I’m in the car, I’m 100 per cent there,” he said. 

“That means that when I’m in the WEC environment and racing, my thoughts are 100 per cent there – in the simulator, in the meeting, whatever.”
