Mick Schumacher feels that Haas are going in the "right direction" after getting behind the wheel of their 2022 F1 car for the first time. The 2021 campaign was a difficult one for the team, with Schumacher and teammate Nikita Mazepin generally at the back of the field throughout the year, and neither scored any points. Given that the American outfit decided not to develop last year's car in order to focus on the new technical regulations for 2022, Schumacher is hopeful that they might be able to compete more in the upcoming campaign, having been left feeling positive after the recent pre-season test in Barcelona. "Overall, [my first impressions are] very positive," Schumacher told media including RacingNews365.com . "I think we're going into the right direction. We have the tools, I think, in place to do a step up. "Hopefully we'll be able to fight a bit this year, which will be great. [I] didn't get that much last year, but nonetheless I think the mood is good."
Focusing on 2022 early was "right" decision
Schumacher believes that Haas did the right thing in deciding to switch their focus to 2022 early on last year. "The direction we chose to go last year I think was the right one ," the German said. "And I think we have done most of the job, now it's just about putting everything together, and having everything into place for the first race." Following his rookie campaign in F1, Schumacher is feeling very ready for his second season in the sport. "I feel very comfortable," he explained. "I feel ready for it, and I think the car and all the guys in the team are also ready for it. So I'm sure it's going to be a good one." Schumacher will get a second chance to get behind the wheel of the VF-22 at the second pre-season test in Bahrain, which takes place on 10-12 March.
