Sauber Motorsport has taken a giant stride towards its Audi transformation by announcing what could be a game-changer in its bid to challenge at the front of the grid when the team launches in 2026.
Sauber morphs into the F1 factory team from next year, with the team continuing to operate out of its long-established base in Hinwil, Switzerland, in tandem with the power unit department in Neuberg, Germany.
There will now be a third hub as Sauber has confirmed the establishment of the Sauber Motorsport Technology Centre UK that will "extend the team's presence and influence within the global Formula 1 landscape".
The team feel that having access to the world’s largest motorsport expertise and talent pool will help "establish a platform to collaborate with top experts and attract local engineering talent for the Audi F1 project".
The move is being viewed as a key component of Audi's long-term strategy to enhance and expand its technical capabilities.
At present, locations with the renowned 'Motorsport Valley' are being evaluated, including sites in Bicester, Silverstone, and Milton Keynes. The goal is to have the new facility operational by summer 2025.
Mattia Binotto, COO and CTO of Sauber Motorsport, said: "We are excited to establish our technical centre in the UK to complement our key site in Hinwil, which will continue to lead our main engineering operations and experience the largest team growth.
"Expanding into the UK allows us to remain close to one of the world’s most dynamic motorsport ecosystems.
"Our vision is to create a strong, collaborative network across Hinwil and the UK, driving innovation and performance."
