Sainz rejects 2022 Ferrari claim against Leclerc

Carlos Sainz has rubbished claims about the 2022 Ferrari in his battle against teammate Charles Leclerc.

Carlos Sainz has rejected claims about the 2022 Ferrari Formula 1 car and how it 'evolved' more to his driving style. Sainz struggled in the early stages of last season, unable to match teammate Charles Leclerc's driving style in the new ground-effect F1-75 machine. He called the season-opener in Bahrain his worst result of the year, but improved throughout the season, ending up with a maiden win at Silverstone and three pole positions. Speaking at the launch of the new SF-23 car, Sainz was firm in dismissing the idea that his form improved as the 2022 morphed closer to his preferred style and away from Leclerc's.

"I feel like there was this trend last year where people were saying that the car was going in my direction," Sainz explained to media including RacingNews365.com. "This is what I am going to say, and say very openly: An F1 car doesn't develop towards one driver or the other. "An F1 car develops to be quicker and develops on the weaknesses it has, and my job as a driver is to give indications of where the car is weak, it is contrasted with data, and I give that feedback. "Honestly, the only thing I care about is that the car is faster, and I went through some difficult moments last year. "We started with a car that required a certain, specific driving style and even in the worst moments, I adapted. I managed a bit too late for my liking, but I adapted to make it happen. "The target this year is again to start better and adapt to whatever the car [is like]."
