Sainz praises Ferrari's 'high risk' car launch

The team elected to run the SF-23 for the first time in front of fans and media alike at Maranello.

Carlos Sainz has praised Ferrari for their "high risk" car launch strategy, which involved running the SF-23 for the first time in front of fans and media alike. Normally car launches feature a static unveiling of the car, before a private shakedown a couple of days later. But Ferrari appeared the most confident about their chances ahead of the new season, with Charles Leclerc taking to Maranello first and giving a positive reaction after two laps . Sainz later ran for three additional laps in the car and described how it went smoothly without any issues. "First thing that I'm positive about is in everything that we did today, nothing went wrong, everything went perfect," he told media, including RacingNews365.com . "It actually relatively high risk, you want to put up a brand new F1 car on track in front of so many people and to actually get to enjoy it without a single problem on track."

Sainz could 'push a bit' in the new car

Sainz described how he could "push" in the new car while out on track, providing engineers with some initial feedback before the first pre-season test at Bahrain. He added: "Normally in all these installation laps, there is always issues here and there, and today the car was running smoothly. "I could actually push a bit on it, lean a bit on the car in the corners and feel the first things. We've already given some feedback to the engineers to work on for tomorrow." Ferrari plan to complete their 100km of 'filming day' testing as stipulated by the regulations around Maranello. "Tomorrow we have the 100km where we continue to do the build up to Bahrain," Sainz continued. "Obviously at Bahrain we will not know how the car is performing and how the car is handling, but at least we've already covered some nice steps in the right direction."
