Carlos Sainz will keep his third place on the Monaco Grand Prix grid after the stewards elected to take no further action against him.

Sainz was summoned after allegedly impeding Alex Albon in Q1 in Monte Carlo at Turn 15 - the exit of the swimming pool, with Albon's Williams on a flying lap at the time.

Sainz was informed by Ferrari of Albon approaching, and tried to move out of the the way of the Thai, but "given the tight nature of the chicane and the Monaco circuit" was unable to do so.

Reflecting in front of the stewards, Sainz felt he could have gone off the track and into the run-off to not impede Albon, but felt he did not impede per se as he took appropriate steps to move clear.

Albon felt the matter was "grey" as to whether he was impeded "unnecessarily" and that he felt he lost a tenth-and-a-half as a result.

He did not think it was a clear case of impeding, and as such, the stewards took no further action.

Sainz will retain third on the grid, with Albon ninth after Williams' first Q3 appearance of the season.
