George Russell has described his disqualification from the Belgian Grand Prix as “heartbreaking” but has vowed to bounce back from the disappointment.

The Briton took the chequered flag ahead of team-mate Lewis Hamilton - however he was soon excluded from the results after his car was deemed to be underweight.

Russell completed the race on a one-stop strategy, with team boss Toto Wolff suggesting the lack of rubber on his tyre played a major role in his car being declared illegal.

Hamilton inherited the win as a result, taking his second victory of the season while Russell was left to deal with the difficult race outcome.

However, the 26-year-old has stated there will be “more to come” going forward.

“Heartbreaking… We came in 1.5kg underweight and have been disqualified from the race,” he said on social media.

“We left it all on the track today and I take pride in crossing the line first. There will be more to come.”
