Russell singles out Aston Martin: Melbourne circuit corners suit them

The Mercedes driver thinks Aston Martin will be their main target at Albert Park.

George Russell predicts that Aston Martin will be Mercedes' main target during the Australian Grand Prix weekend, as the team looks to improve their fortunes. The Briton cites the strong speed of the AMR23 in the medium-speed corners being a particular strength for them, which features a lot around Albert Park, including the fast sweeping section of Turns 9 and 10. "I think Aston [Martin] are going to be really strong here," said Russell. "They seem to be the quickest car in medium-speed corners and obviously there's plenty of them here in Melbourne. So, if we can fight with Aston and Ferrari again, that'd be a good weekend.

Russell: Another P4 will be exceeding potential of the car

So far Mercedes have been lucky to finish the opening two races in the top five, after Lance Stroll retired in Saudi Arabia and the Ferrari's struggled with high tyre degradation in Bahrain. Russell thinks another P4 at Melbourne in the current W14 will be an overachievement as the team looks ahead to their big upgrade package in Baku. "I think if we manage to get another P4 or fight for the podium that will probably be exceeding the potential of the car," the Briton summarised.
