Russell receives penalty points from stewards after Perez incident

The stewards opted to add to George Russell's penalty points tally following the Mercedes driver's collision with Sergio Perez in the Monaco Grand Prix.

George Russell has been handed penalty points by the stewards after colliding with Sergio Perez in the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver was left "kicking himself" over the incident, having looked on course for a podium result when he made an error at the Mirabeau corner soon after pitting for Intermediate tyres in the wet conditions. As he returned to the track, Russell made contact with the Red Bull of Perez. The Briton was given a five-second penalty and eventually finished the race in P5. Alongside his on-track punishment, a document detailing the stewards' verdict shows that Russell also received two penalty points for rejoining the track in an unsafe manner, bringing his total points tally from the past 12 months up to six.
