Valentino Rossi is keen to see Ferrari improve their performance and challenge Mercedes, as the Italian believes they have a driver capable of winning races in Charles Leclerc. The Italian outfit slumped to a sixth place finish in the constructors' standings last season, failing to register a victory while rivals Mercedes and Red Bull battled at the front of the grid. However there is renewed optimism surrounding the team entering 2021 with Carlos Sainz replacing Sebastian Vettel, but Rossi believes Ferrari already have a driver capable of making the difference in Leclerc - though he needs a competitive car to back him up. "I am a Formula 1 fan," Rossi told Corriere della Sera. "I like Ferrari and I like [Charles] Leclerc, I think he is one of the best drivers on the grid. They have someone that can win, now they have to build a car that is good enough. "Competing with Mercedes is a problem, for everyone. But Ferrari have to be there, like Red Bull, and cause some problems."
