Daniel Ricciardo joked that he'd been sandbagging all year prior to his performance at the Italian Grand Prix, as the Australian took the chequered flag in a famous win for McLaren. Ricciardo didn't put a tyre wrong all race, coming home ahead of teammate Lando Norris as McLaren finished 1-2 at Monza. He noted that the August break has helped him get his season back on track. "I've just been a sandbagging ***** the whole year," Ricciardo stated after the race. "Honestly, the August break was good just to reset. "I've felt better the last three weekends, but to not only win but to get a one-two, it's insane. For McLaren to be on the podium it's huge, let alone one-two. "I'm for once, lost for words." Ricciardo had a great start, getting past Max Verstappen off the line. He admits he didn't expect to lead for most of the race. "To be honest, even if we got the start it was never a guarantee we would lead the whole race," Ricciardo added. "I was able just to hold out. I don't think we had mega speed, but it was enough just to keep Max behind. "Then there were Safety Cars and this and that, but to lead from start to finish, I don't think any of us expected that. "There was something in me on Friday. I knew something good was to come."
