Arvid Lindblad is set to get his first outing on an F1 weekend, with reports he will get two FP1 sessions for Racing Bulls later this season.
The 17-year-old now has an FIA super licence following the motorsport governing body granting the British driver an age exemption at the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) meeting in Macau ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
This was permitted under the provision Appendix L of Article 13.1.2 of the International Sporting Code (ISC), which was introduced last year to allow drivers below the age of 18 the ability to race in F1 so long as they have "consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single-seater formula car competition".
Lindblad had already reached the 40 super licence threshold required to compete in F1 due to his success in F4, FIA F3 and winning the Formula Regional Oceana championship over the winter.
"The FIA has received a request to grant a Super Licence to Arvid Lindblad prior to his 18th birthday," the FIA confirmed.
"After considering the information presented in support of this request, the World Council found that the driver has recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single-seater formula car competition and therefore approved the request."
Motorsport.com has also reported there could be a Red Bull first practice outing for the highly-touted F2 driver.
It is also understood Lindblad will test a previous year F1 at Imola Circuit next week, the same track he drove an AlphaTauri AT04 (from 2023) as part of a filming day earlier this season.
Six rounds into the 14-round F2 season, the Campos Racing driver sits third in the drivers' standings, eight points behind fellow F2 rookie Alex Dunne.
