Former F1 race winner David Coulthard will replace Daniel Ricciardo on the Red Bull Formula Nurburgring roster, the circuit has confirmed.

Ricciardo was due to drive the famous Nordschleife circuit on September 9, jumping behind the wheel of an old Red Bull car in an event that will also see Sebastian Vettel return to the track in an F1 machinery.

The run was set to take place as part of the Nurburgring 12 Hours event.

But after breaking a metacarpal in his left hand when crashing in second practice for the Dutch Grand Prix, Ricciardo faces at least a month on the sidelines and has been replaced at AlphaTauri by Liam Lawson.

That means that in addition to missing the Italian Grand Prix and, as is expected, the Singapore Grand Prix at least, his place at Formula Nurburgring has been taken away.

Instead, 13-time Grand Prix winner Coulthard will take over the drive, as confirmed by the circuit.

“Unfortunately Daniel Ricciardo can not participate in the Red Bull Formula Nürburgring due to his injury,” it said in a short statement.

“Thirteen-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard takes over at short notice.”
