Red Bull junior Lawson triggers frightening Super Formula crash

The crash brought out the red flags as multiple cars flew airborne.

Red Bull junior driver Liam Lawson was the catalyst for a frightening incident in the Super Formula race at Motegi. The New Zealander entered the round level on top in the standings but was left spinning on the exit of Turns 1 and 2 after trying to pass Team Mugen teammate Tomoki Nojiri for the lead. His car was left sitting on the racing line and with the pack bunched at the start of the race, contact was inevitable. Tadasuke Makino and Yuhi Sekiguchi were collected, with both drivers sent flying over Lawson's car. Take a look at the footage below!

The fact Team Mugen managed to fix Liam Lawson’s car after this airplane crash is absolutely phenomenal , glad everyone is ok , well done Mugen’s Mechanics 👏 #SUPERFORMULA pic.twitter.com/roSRAcio4o — ahmed baokbah 🇸🇦🏎✈️ (@ahmed_baokbah) August 20, 2023
