Red Bull accidentally show operation of new F1 flexi-wing

F1 teams are allowed to run front flexi-wings over the opening eight rounds of the 2025 F1 season, but from the Spanish Grand Prix there will be stricter tests imposed by the FIA.

One of the major F1 talking points heading into pre-season testing was the development of the flexi-wing saga and the FIA's move to outlaw them - or reduce their effect.

Changes to rear wings have been implemented instantly, but teams have until round nine, the Spanish Grand Prix, to alter their front wings.

It is important to note it is not a blanket ban, but merely a restriction of how much flex a wing can have. It was a contentious issue last season, with the likes of McLaren taking full advantage.

The governing body did not initially pursue amended rules, but did a partial u-turn on that stance. Therefore, teams have been given a little longer to make changes to the front wing, in order to avoid wasted development from over the winter.

Teams, like Red Bull, have therefore created a flexi-wing for the opening eight rounds, before moving to a more refined version in the summer, which will comply to the stringent load tests.

However, that did not stop footage of Liam Lawson in the RB21 going viral, showing Red Bull's new flexi-wing for the first eight grand prix of the season.

The New Zealander went second quickest in the morning running, but did have a spin. Max Verstappen has now taken over the car for the PM session.

You can check out that footage here.
