Racing legend Bobby Unser has died, aged 87

Three time Indy 500 winner Bobby Unser has died at the age of 87, his family have confirmed.

Bobby Unser, a three time winner of the Indianapolis 500, has died. His family have confirmed he passed away on Sunday, May 2, at his home in New Mexico. Unser was 87 years old. Unser is a member is numerous motorsports Halls of Fame, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame. He won the Indy 500 in 1968, 1975 and 1981, one of just two drivers to have won the 500 in three different decades. Bobby is just one member of the Unser family of racing legends. His brother Al is a four time winner of the Indy 500, while nephew Al Unser Junior is another Indy winner. Unser also became famous at Pikes Peak, nicknamed 'Unser Mountain' as he won 13 class titles at Pikes Peak and earned 'King of the Mountain' honours on 10 occasions during his career. Unser is survived by his wife, Lisa; sons Bobby Jr. and Robby; and daughters Cindy and Jeri.
