F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has entered disucssions with Thailand prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to discuss the potential of a race in the country.

Thailand has been signalling its interest in hosting a race for some time, and currently has a link to the current grid with Alex Albon racing under a Thai licence.

The current schedule features 24 grands prix - the most in F1 history.

However, the possibility of more locations joining the calendar has increased through the implementation a rotating system, with Belgium signing up to host a race in four of the next six seasons.

Should Thailand's bid to join the calendar be successful, the grand prix would likely be a street race around its capital city, Bangkok.

Domenicali travelled to Thailand after the season-opening Australian Grand Prix to discuss plans with the nation's prime minister.

“I was delighted to meet with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the prime minister of Thailand, and her team today to discuss their impressive plans to host a race in Bangkok,” he said.

“I am looking forward to continuing our discussions in the weeks and months ahead.”

Various new locations have expressed interest in joining the F1 schedule going forward amid its boom in popularity.

Another street event is scheduled to join the calendar next year with Madrid given the Spanish Grand Prix title, while Barcelona's F1 future remains in the air.

The sport is also exploring a return to Africa, with Rwanda formally registering its interest in hosting a grand prix late last year.
