Porsche 'homework' paying off as Pascal Wehrlein eyes Formula E title fight

Pascal Wehrlein has revealed that Porsche has done its "homework" in the current Formula E title fight, with it feeling like a "different situation" compared to last season.

Wehrlein leads the drivers' championship by three points over Jaguar's Mitch Evans ahead of this weekend's double-header in Monaco, an event which will kickstart the second half of the season.

Nine races remain in what is shaping up to be another extremely tight championship, with Wehrlein and Porsche having learned from mistakes made last year.

The German has been extremely consistent across the opening eight rounds, having finished outside the points on just one occasion.

Wehrlein has scored consistently strong points, even in pack races, which were often Porsche's downfall last year.

Finishing third after starting on pole in the second race of the recent Berlin E-Prix highlighted the step forward made by Porsche, which at times found it difficult to remain at the front in pack races.

Asked if there is a growing belief that the drivers' title is possible this season, Wehrlein told RacingNews365: "Well, I think it's clear that we're in the fight. 

"I think it's clear that it's very close. Yeah, we're kind of halfway through the season, and we've had a good start to the year, a good first half.

"So yeah, I'm happy with that. Here and there, things could have been better. I guess for many guys, things could have been better here and there, but it clearly feels like a different situation compared to last season.

"We've done our homework. We continue to push hard and improve things. So yes, I feel like we are in the fight. It's not the priority at the moment. The priority is to maximise every result, and then let's see where we end up in the last couple of races."
