The hopes of Andretti of joining the Formula 1 grid appear over for now after its entry bid was emphatically rejected.
In a lengthy statement, F1 detailed why it had turned down the application from Michael Andretti's squad, believing that it was not ready to compete at a high level or would not add value to the championship.
However, F1 did note that if General Motors - Andretti's partner - comes with a fully-fledged power unit for the 2028 season, as GM intended, then the bid would be reconsidered on its merits at the time.
It means that there will be no new team on the grid before 2028 at the earliest, although Stake will rebadge to Audi for 2026 and other name changes are possible.
