Pirelli has announced its long-time head of F1, Mario Isola, will depart the company and cease his role overseeing the sport's tyre designs.

Isola has been associated with F1 for three decades and over the past 10 years has been responsible for overseeing the Italian marque's exclusive tyre deal with F1.

Dario Marrafuschi will take over Isola's role, assuming the position of head of Pirelli’s motorsport business unit.

He will start the role on March 1, the same week the new F1 season kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix.

Pirelli has detailed that Isola will continue to play a role with the company until July 1 to see a smooth transition, before he departs entirely to embark on a new challenge.

In a short statement, Pirelli said: “The Company wishes to thank Mario Isola for the dedication and great passion with which he has contributed to the growth of the Motorsport business unit over the years.”

Marrafuschi has been part of Pirelli since 2008 and like Isola, will report to Giovanni Tronchetti Provera, executive vice president of sustainability, new mobility & motorsport.
