Oscar Piastri is optimistic that McLaren can catch up to Red Bull before 2026, despite fears that it could continue to dominate for the next three years. Charles Leclerc believes teams will face an uphill task to compete with the dominant team for the next three years, given its current advantage which has seen it win all 14 races so far in the season. McLaren has been one of the teams that has managed to turn around its fortunes midway through the season, after suffering one of its worst starts in the first couple of races. When asked if they can catch Red Bull, Piastri told media, including RacingNews365 : "I would like to hope we can catch them in that time. Do I think it's going to be difficult? Yes. "They started the regulation cycle so strong last year, they've been even stronger this year."
Piastri: We're still a bit of a chunk off Red Bull
The new Aerodynamic Testing Restriction rules have enabled teams that finish further behind in the Constructors' Championship to catch up to rivals, which Piastri hopes will be a factor going forward. "But I think seeing Aston Martin over the winter break and McLaren from one weekend to the next, us two teams have showed that you can make a big turnaround in a short period of time," he explained. "Through dedication, hard work, and following the right directions. Of course we're still a bit of a chunk off Red Bull, but also with the way the rules are with aero and wind tunnel time and stuff like that, it should bring everyone closer. "But yeah, I hope we can beat them. I'm maybe a bit more optimistic than Charles, but it's not gonna be easy."
