Oscar Piastri has been handed a five-second time penalty by stewards for an incident with Liam Lawson in the Italian Grand Prix and not Lewis Hamilton. On Lap 41, Hamilton squeezed Piastri at the second chicane breaking the front-wing of the McLaren who pitted and dropped down the order to 14th. Hamilton was hit with a five-second penalty but took sixth as Piastri was given a similar punishment for leaving the track and gaining a lasting advantage on Lawson. The move began at Turn 1 and continued through the Curva Grande to Turn 5, where Piastri again went off the track but did not hand the place back to Lawson. For this, he was penalised, but retained 12th place. Hamilton, George Russell and Logan Sargeant were the other drivers penalised in a yellow-flag free race.
