Piastri blames 'mistakes' for missing out on points

Oscar Piastri narrowly missed out on scoring a point at the Canadian Grand Prix, with the McLaren driver admitting that he will take a "lot of learning" from the weekend in Montreal.

Oscar Piastri believes his "mistakes" in the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix cost him a chance of scoring points. The McLaren driver started the race from P8 on the grid but ultimately missed out on claiming a point, having ended the day in P11. While Piastri took positives from his early-race pace, the Australian acknowledged that he had made some errors. "The first stint was very good, [I made] some good moves and the pace generally felt very good," Piastri said after the race. "The next couple of stints [I] struggled a little bit, just struggled for a bit of pace and also made a few mistakes here and there. "Ultimately I think it probably cost us a spot in the points, which is a shame."

Piastri: A lot of learning from the race

Despite this, Piastri thinks that the weekend in Montreal provided some positive signs for McLaren after a more challenging race prior to that in Barcelona. "[There will be] a lot of learning from that race [in Canada], both good and bad," he explained. "All in all, [it was] a shame to be so close to the points but [we] still learnt a lot. "I think our race pace was definitely better than Barcelona, for example. Overall, we can be more positive about our pace."
