Antonio Perez Garibay, the father of F1 driver Sergio Perez, was hospitalised on Sunday following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The 65-year-old former politician was found unconscious in his bathroom and rushed to a hospital in Mexico City. When in hospital, it was revealed that Perez Senior suffered a pre-infarction.

The incident, according to the PR department, reportedly occurred right after his son's crash in Baku, after which the Mexican Red Cross treated him.

Red Bull Racing driver Perez was battling for a spot on the podium in Baku before coming together with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, eliminating both from the event.

The PR department has outlined that the father of the Red Bull driver is now doing well.

However, it has not been confirmed whether Perez is still in the hospital or has since returned home, but Mediotiempo reports that while he remains under care, he should be permitted to leave the hospital on Tuesday.

Antonio Perez himself, from the hospital, commented on the incident to Mediotiempo: “Everything happened after the [Baku] accident.

“The shock of the accident may have caused this. They are already checking my heart to see why I fainted.”
