Sergio Perez has revealed that the challenge of being alongside Max Verstappen has made him want to continue with Red Bull, following the recent announcement that he has signed a new contract with the team.
It was announced ahead of the recent Canadian Grand Prix that the Mexican driver had signed a two-year extension, which was later discovered to actually be a 1+1 deal.
The contract keeps Perez with Red Bull for 2025 and gives the Milton Keynes-based team an option to retain the driver for 2026.
Unsurprisingly, prior to signing the contract extension, Perez had several options on the table but his main ambition was always to continue with Red Bull.
"I had a few options outside this team, but my aspiration was to continue with this team," Perez told RACER.
"I am very happy. I love working with this group of mechanics and engineers. Everyone works really hard and gives their all.
"I am super happy to continue my journey with this team and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that has been given to me. I would really like to end my career with this team."

The Verstappen challenge
One of the keys to wanting to remain with Red Bull for Perez was the chance to continue being Verstappen's team-mate.
The reigning world champion has proven almost impossible to beat no matter which driver is alongside him, and has pushed Perez to his limits.
Being next to the Dutchman is a challenge Perez embraces though, and is part of the reason why he has remained with Red Bull.
"I love having that challenge of being Max's teammate. That has made me want to keep going, precisely because it is such a challenge. It makes you keep learning and keep growing," said Perez, who also recognises the mental challenges of partnering Verstappen.
"You've also seen with other drivers how tough it is," he continued. "Red Bull is different from any other team in that respect.
"Mentally it takes everything out of you and you also have to be very strong in your shoes to be able to deal with the pressure within this team."
Having a team-mate like Verstappen is simply a challenge Perez would not be able to get at any other team.
Perez enters every Grand Prix knowing the 26-year-old will be performing at a remarkable level, something he tries to make the most of to improve himself.
"From the outside there is already a lot going on and inside the team you are dealing with someone who sets the tone by performing at such a high level," added Perez.
"He is one with the car. If you go to another team with a different team-mate you are on it differently, but this is the challenge I just love."
