Sergio Perez's Formula 1 future is hanging by a thread after a heavy crash at Turn 8 in Q1, ahead of Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix. The under pressure Red Bull driver crashed on the outside of Turn 8 after losing the rear of his RB20 with just under seven minutes in the opening part of qualifying remaining. Perez had started a damp Q1 well at the Hungaroring and was in ninth at the moment of his accident and looked safely through to Q2. It appeared the 34-year-old did little wrong, with it appearing to be more of an issue to do with rain intensifying. However, a sizeable amount of kerb was taken by Perez. His RB20 sustained significant damage to its right side and rear, raising questions whether a gearbox change will be required.

Perez is ok, but his Red Bull certainly isn't... He'll start tomorrow's race from P15 at best 😖 #F1 #HungarianGP pic.twitter.com/tPGEEw3Lqg — Formula 1 (@F1) July 20, 2024
