Oscar Piastri has outlined his approach to battling Lando Norris for the F1 title, insisting they should not “bring the house down” at McLaren.

The Woking-based squad has enjoyed a competitive start to the current campaign, which sees Piastri sit atop the drivers' standings.

Norris is just three points behind his team-mate following his victory at Monaco last weekend.

However, no flash points have occurred between the duo so far - a theme that Piastri is hoping to continue throughout the campaign.

“Going into the year, we knew it was impossible to have your own personal goal directly in parallel with the team’s,” Piastri told media including RacingNews365.

“And that’s something we’ve both been very frank about, something that the team have been very aware of.

“At the end of last year, we felt that if we went into this year with a car as strong as we’d finished with, we’d be in this situation.

“I think we’ve been very good at being open about it, just talking about it.

“But we’re never going to do anything that’s unsportsmanlike or puts the team in a bad light or puts ourselves in a bad light. I think that’s just not who Lando and I are.”

Oscar Piastri keen to maintain strong McLaren relationship

Both Piastri and Norris recently penned new deals with the team, ensuring their stay at McLaren for the foreseeable future.

While it has sealed one of the strongest line-ups on the grid, questions have been raised over potential consequences should the partnership boil over amid a title fight.

But Piastri highlighted he does not want to burn relationships at the team in pursuit of a title this year as he eyes having several title-fighting campaigns with McLaren.

“Of course, we want to go out and beat each other every weekend, but we’re never going to cross that line that’s going to cause damage that can’t be repaired,” he said.

“I’ve said it a few times now - we don’t want just one opportunity at this.

“We’re both at McLaren for a very long time after this year, and we want to fight for the championship every single year.

“And I think we both understand it’s pretty unwise to try and win one championship and bring the house down with it.”
