Oscar Piastri has explained his reluctance to follow McLaren team-mate Lando Norris in using McLaren's new front suspension.
At the Canadian GP, McLaren introduced a fresh front suspension design, but only Norris has adopted the new part, with Piastri opting to stay with the old specification.
Norris has spoken at times in the first half of the season of struggling for feeling from the front of the car, with the Canada upgrade helping him to find some of the feeling he enjoyed from the 2024 car.
Using it, Norris was able to secure back-to-back wins for the first time in his career in Austria and Britain to reduce Piastri's title lead to just eight points.
Norris himself believes that the difference in front suspensions has been overblown, as Piastri explained why he has not followed his team-mate's decision
"I have not used it, ever," Piastri told media, including RacingNews365.
"The thing is, for me, it's not an upgrade, it is just something which is different, and it makes some things potentially better.
"It makes some things a bit worse, and if it were just all benefits, I would be putting it on the car, no questions asked.
"But for me, I've not struggled with that particular feeling; the year has been going pretty well.
"I am more keen to just keep the car consistent and worry about how we get the most out of the set-up and other upgrades than changing the suspension."
