Norris voices McLaren worry in F1 title fight

McLaren's lead in the F1 constructors' title fight has been reduced to 24 points with two rounds remaining.

Lando Norris has revealed that he is worried at "how bad" McLaren's car was during the Las Vegas Grand Prix.  The Woking-based team lost big points to Ferrari in the F1 constructors' title fight, with the Italian outfit now being just 24 points behind ahead of Qatar this weekend.  Norris had to settle for sixth ahead of team-mate Oscar Piastri in seventh, whilst Ferrari secured third and fourth.  A silver-lining for McLaren was that Mercedes secured a one-two, which reduced the damage Ferrari were able to do to the British team's advantage.  However, Norris was more concerned by the struggles the team endured, rather than Mercedes limiting Ferrari's charge. When asked by select media including RacingNews365 if he was grateful for Mercedes claiming a one-two, Norris responded: "You can say that, but it doesn't really matter.  "For us, it, of course, matters. But I don't think of those things, I think of how bad our car was. That's what worries me, not Mercedes being strong. It was how poor we've been all weekend.  "So clearly, we have a lot of work to do with our car, it's too difficult to drive. It doesn't work in these conditions.  "It doesn't work on many other tracks where we've had similar conditions, but we've been able to get everything out of it." As revealed by the 25-year-old, even when McLaren has had the best package, the team has still endured difficulties with the MCL36.  "Sometimes even when people think we've had the best car, and we've absolutely not, we could have still won some of those races, and those were the great weekends," added Norris. "But in this race, even if I feel like I drove pretty well, I couldn't have got anything more out of it, and if I tried, I would probably would've ended up in the wall somewhere."
