Last month, McLaren announced that it had penned a long-term contract extension with Norris.

The announcement squashed suggestions that Norris could seek a move away from McLaren in the future amid numerous links to a future drive at Red Bull.

Norris enjoyed a strong campaign last year, scoring seven podiums en route to sixth in the Drivers’ Championship.

Having enjoyed his most successful season to date Norris pledged his future to McLaren - but admitted that he talked to other squads before doing so.

“Everyone speaks to everyone, every driver speaks to every team,” Norris told media including RacingNews365.

"It's not in terms of just sorting contracts. It's what can one team offer you, and what can another team offer you, and things like that.

"It's the same with every driver. Everyone speaks to every team on what could we potentially do one day, but nothing ever progressed more than that, basically. It was shut down quite quickly.”

Putting an end to rumours

Norris' new contract followed the team’s announcement last year that it had extended Oscar Piastri’s deal until the end of 2026.

Amid increased speculation over Norris’ future before finalising his new contract, the 24-year-old stated he was keen to put an end to the media rumours.

"As soon as you do start to get some of these questions, and I see a lot of it, then you have talks internally with Andrea [Stella] and Zak [Brown] and whoever it is here at McLaren.

"Then you start talking about your own stuff and you do want to put some of these rumours to bed, because it's not a good question at the team."
