Lando Norris has dismissed any suggestions of playing mind games with Daniel Ricciardo, and insists that he is actually doing the opposite by helping the Australian. While Norris sits P7 in the World Championship standings with 76 points, Ricciardo has only 19 points to his name after what has proved to be a challenging 2022 campaign so far for the 33-year-old. This follows on from his struggles at McLaren in 2021, a year in which he was mostly outperformed by Norris. Since then, Norris has spoken of his efforts to help Ricciardo in adapting to the MCL36 , and as such has quashed the idea of any mind games going on.
Norris dismisses idea of playing mind games with Ricciardo
When asked about the possibility of playing mind games with Ricciardo, Norris seemed surprised. "Mind games? In what way? What mind games can I play?" Norris laughed when speaking to media, including RacingNews365.com . He went on to clarify that this is not the case, and that he is continuing to try to support Ricciardo. "No, it's the opposite," Norris said. "I'm trying to help him as much as I can. It's for the benefit of us as a team, to try and beat Alpine at the end of the day."
Norris offering more help to Ricciardo
In his attempts to help Ricciardo, Norris admits that he is probably sharing more than he usually would with a teammate. "He sees everything that I see in terms of data and everything," the Briton explained. "I'm offering more help than what I normally would, let's say. If we were fighting for a World Championship, I'm saying more things than maybe what I would do! "That's what we need for the team, it's what I want for the team at the minute. "So yeah, [it's] the opposite of mind games, whatever that is – mind soothing!"
