Lando Norris is happy to see McLaren leading the way in terms of innovation and design as he believes it's a sign the team are no longer playing catch up to the rest of the grid. There has much discussion surrounding the diffuser on the MCL35M , with technical director James Key recently admitting he's surprised no other teams have adopted the approach. Either way, Norris is happy to see McLaren back in the discussion when it comes to new ideas as it's a sign they are heading in the right direction. "These kind of ideas are pretty cool from a driver perspective," Norris told Sky Sports. "It's pretty awesome to see the guys and girls come up with their own ideas, something that's leading the way rather than playing catch up or looking in the past. "The past few years, a lot of it's been trying to get back on par with a lot of teams rather than trying to lead the way in different areas. I think we're coming together a bit more and things are looking good. Hopefully we're going in the right direction. "It's cool to see us bring out this difference, this talking point and a lot of people liking it. Hopefully not many people copy us and we're the only team that have it, but I'm sure in a few weeks people are going to be changing to it whether it suits their car or not." We'll get our first glimpse as to whether the rest of the F1 grid has found a way to replicate McLaren's diffuser fairly soon as the season gets underway in Bahrain on March 28.
