Norris gives his reasons for re-signing with McLaren

After a strong start to the 2021 F1 season, Lando Norris and McLaren are sitting pretty. The Brit recently explained why he re-signed with McLaren, stating the team are in a good position to capitalise on the 2022 rule changes.

Lando Norris shared his reasons for re-signing with the McLaren F1 team, pointing to the team's long-term plans beyond 2022 as one of the key reasons. The Brit, who is currently third in the Driver's Championship, has had a stellar start to the 2021 campaign. Norris has picked up two podiums in the first five races and has consistently challenged at the front. This form warranted a contract renewal with the McLaren man re-signing with the Woking-based outfit until 2024. "I was convinced by the progress the team has made over the last two years and those that are planned for the future," Norris told Gazzetta dello Sport. "In 2022 the rules will change, the cars will be completely new, and the next cycle will start from scratch and last a few seasons. I am convinced that McLaren will show up to the challenge in a better position than today and be closer to Mercedes and Red Bull, who I still expect to be very strong. "It is very motivating as a challenge." With Norris confirming his future to the team, McLaren have locked in one of F1's brightest prospects. The British star has helped the team grow over the past two years and has so far excelled in his role as the team's lead driver.
