Lando Norris has acknowledged that he messed up during qualifying for the F1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, after a mistake on his final run costs him a place on the second row. The young British driver completed a sensation lap in Q3, putting himself into second just behind Lews Hamilton. However, just after, Norris was adjudged to have exceeded track limits during the lap, meaning it was subsequently deleted. "Yeah, pretty disappointed. Pretty annoyed myself," Norris told Sky Sports F1. "I think it was a very good day until then. I think the team did an awesome job. You know, the car ready came alive in Quali. We made a lot of improvements on Friday, but um, that one lap that I don't need to make a mistake on. I f'ed it all up" "But it's the thing people don't realize, you know, it's the same for everyone. So at the end of the day, it's my mistake, and I've messed it up. But um, from the outside, it looks a lot easier just to stay within the lines that are there what it is inside, I'm sure you know that." While disappointed, Norris does also observe that mistakes of this nature are going to happen to drivers, especially when they are pushing the car to its very limit during qualifying. "But when you're in Quali, and you're in Q3, and you have an opportunity qualify P2/P3 you know, to score your best result in qualifying -you're pushing when you're going at such a speed in such a high-speed corner. Misjudging it by this amount is tough," the 21-year-old concluded.
