McLaren's Lando Norris says he is aligned with Team Principal Zak Brown's prediction that the squad could be contesting for titles in 2025. The Woking-based outfit started the current campaign on the back foot but made a miraculous turnaround midway through the year. At the last handful of races, McLaren has appeared to possess the second fastest car at times, with Norris scoring a duo of second-place results at Silverstone and the Hungaroring. It is investing in its future set up by installing its own wind tunnel at the Woking factory, and has also poached some key figures from some of its F1 rivals. Brown recently said that McLaren could be contesting for titles by 2025, having not claimed a title in F1 since Lewis Hamilton's maiden championship in 2008. The team last won the Constructors' title in 1998, although it would have won the 2007 title had it not been thrown out as punishment for 'spy-gate.'
Norris targeting 2025
Norris asserted that he agrees with Brown and is hopeful of having a car to contest for a title in just over one year's time. “I mean, I think there's a difference of having everything in place versus having everything in your hands,” he told media including RacingNews365. “I think when he says that, it’s having the people who are coming, guys from Red Bull, people from Ferrari. “Having the wind tunnel by that point fully just doing everything it should, having the simulator doing everything as it should. “Things are still happening, which is putting things in place. By that point, everything should be in place. “It's then still a bit of time to extract everything from the stuff that we got. “So I think he's right, I completely agree with what he's saying. “It's just there's a difference so then turning that into the actual lap time itself on the car, which is I think, not something we're going to be able to start the next season with. “But it’s something maybe we can end or build up to in 2024 and more likely have a chance into 2025.”
