Adrian Newey's wife Amanda has questioned claims discrediting her husband's efforts in designing the dominant Red Bull RB19.
Red Bull's Chief Technical Officer, who was honoured in King Charles' New Year's Honours List, has been widely praised for his efforts since joining the F1 grid in the late 1980s but comments from Team Principal Christian Horner suggested Pierre Waché was leading the charge.
Speaking to Motorsport.com, Horner explained: "Adrian is a big part of this team and big part of what we’ve achieved.
“But of course, his role has evolved over the last few years and the technical team beneath him led by Pierre Wache, they’re doing a wonderful job and so that they’re not reliant on Adrian.
"He has the ability to come in, come out and work on other projects and I think that’s part of the evolution of any team.
"I was always a big fan of Manchester United, not as a Man United fan, but of Alex Ferguson, they had [Eric] Cantona and then they just evolved," he explained.
"Red Bull is a team that, we're stronger for having Adrian with us, but of course the rest of the team is evolving."
'What a load of hogwash'
Responding to posts from two outlets on X [formerly Twitter], Amanda Newey simply wrote: "What a load of hogwash."
Newey also responded to a separate user who suggested the RB19 was not one of her husband's 'championship-winning' cars by saying: "Absolute b****cks".
Red Bull will be hoping to continue its domination over the field with its new RB20 challenger.
