It has been reported that the departure of Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey could be announced ahead of this weekend's Miami Grand Prix, adding a huge talking point to this weekend's action.
Last week Auto, Motor und Sport reported that Newey is going to leave Red Bull. The top designer is said to be unhappy with the situation at the team and has expressed his desire to leave.
RacingNews365 also understands that Newey will leave the team at the end of the season. Now several media outlets are reporting that an announcement is expected prior to this weekend's Miami GP.
It is not yet entirely clear under what terms Newey will leave. His contract concludes at the end of 2025, with the general expectation being that he will need to undergo a period of gardening leave before he can join another team.
Thus, Red Bull is preventing Newey from taking a lot of important and sensitive information with him. Ferrari or Aston Martin are said to be vying for Newey's signature.
The announcement, however, is said to have taken a little longer because after all these years of cooperation and success, Newey and Red Bull want to discuss carefully how they will communicate his departure.
The message needs to be drafted properly to also send a clear and positive signal to sponsors and the outside world.
The timing of the announcement would be quite striking, as Red Bull is facing an important race weekend in Miami. The team's main sponsor, Oracle, is from the United States, making a good performance in Miami even more valuable.
Therefore, it was not expected that Red Bull would announce such a loss at this venue. Still, it seems that the announcement of Newey's departure will soon follow.
