The MotoGP season has kicked off with a major incident after Pol Espargaro has fractured his jaw, dorsal vertebrae, and suffered pulmonary contusion.
The crash took place in Portimao at Turn 10, where he had a heavy impact into the barriers during practice for the Portuguese round of the championship.
"Pol Espargaro has had a high-intensity crash and suffered multiple traumas," said MotoGP Medical Director Angel Charte.
"He has suffered severe spinal trauma and a contusion to his lungs which we will have to monitor closely. Although I think he will recover well, we need to conduct the appropriate tests to determine the extent of his injuries."
