Mick Schumacher has paid tribute to his father Michael, on the seven-time World Champion's birthday. Schumacher senior turns 53 on 3 January, just a few days after the eighth anniversary of the skiing accident in which he suffered life-changing head injuries. Schumacher's current health status is unknown, and he continues to recover from the accident at home with his family. Son Mick, who made his F1 debut this year and 30 years after his dad, took to Instagram to share a childhood picture of him in Michael's arms. "Happy Birthday, Dad. Days like these were important to my growing passion for motorsport, and still affects it to this day. "I am grateful for all the experiences you have given me and I'm excited to be making new ones in the future."
Former teams pay tribute
Ferrari, the team with which Michael became synonymous as he dominated F1 between 2000 and 2004 in the red of the Prancing Horse, shared pictures of Schumacher throughout the day, with the caption: "We're all with you, Michael. Today and all days." Mercedes, with which Schumacher returned to race between 2010 and 2012, also posted images from his time in silver, and said: "Happy Birthday to an F1 icon. Keep Fighting Michael."
